If you want something dependable, fast, and flashy for the whole family, consider Porsche's newest sports SUV, the Porsche Macan.

Is The Porsche Macan A Good Luxury SUV?

As Porsche continues to push the boundaries as much as possible, enthusiasts' attention is typically drawn to the fastest, most expensive examples. After all, those are the ones that everyone has hung on their bedroom wall.

Without a doubt, these sports cars and hypercars are incredible. However, as most of us are aware, those types of vehicles are neither affordable nor practical for the average middle-class family. So, what do you do when you want to drive a cool sports car but also need to seat four or more people? Of course, you should get a sports/luxury SUV.

Customers have a lot of options when it comes to Porsche. Models such as the Cayenne and Panamera are among them, but they are relatively old designs when compared to the newer ones.

If you want something dependable, fast, and flashy for the whole family, consider Porsche's newest sports SUV, the Porsche Macan.

The Macan is a Porsche that is suitable for families

Porsche, unlike other high-end sports car manufacturers, is known for being family-friendly. The original Porsche 911, like the current ones, had four seats. However, you'd be forgiven for preferring to sit in the front, as no one taller than five-foot-six will be comfortable back there.

Of course, Porsche had more models than just the 911, but they eventually moved into the sports utility category and produced the Porsche Cayenne, a large-sized SUV. Their heart was in the right place, but the change did not go down well with everyone.

As DriveTribe puts it so articulately, "Most Porsche fans despised it and said it should never have worn the Stuttgart badge. It didn't look like a Porsche, and it was actually a VW Touareg in disguise."

That's how we felt about the Cayenne, but the Macan is a little different. On the outside, it appears to be a Porsche rather than a Volkswagen. The sleek body and minor details appear to be identical to those of other Porsche models.

When compared to its bigger brother, the Macan feels and looks more like a luxury Porsche than a rebadged VW.

Performance, Luxury, and Reliability

In terms of performance, Porsche has that 'in the bag,' so to speak. With competitors like Audi, BMW, and Lamborghini throwing their hats into the SUV ring, Porsche needed to really up their game with the Macan.

The Macan has received numerous updates since its initial release in 2014. The most recent facelift was in 2019, and boy did they give it the works! To name a few changes, there was a complete chassis overhaul, improved aerodynamics, an improved interior, and a new engine option.

The Porsche Macan Turbo is the top-of-the-line model. It has a top speed of about 167 miles per hour and 434 horsepower. That's the far end of the spectrum, as most entry-level Macans produce between 250 and 350 horsepower.

All of that speed and power is great, but how about the ride? Is it as comfortable and luxurious as everyone claims? In a nutshell, yes, very much so. After all, it's a Porsche, so you can expect them to go all out in every department.

Maintenance scores, on the other hand, irritate us. According to a What Car? reliability survey, the Macan "didn't perform particularly well... finishing 23rd out of 31 brands." Not exactly what you want from a daily driver

The Final Decision About The Porsche Macan

As a Porsche purist, we find the Macan to be an odd middle ground. As previously stated, the Cayenne irritated many purists, including ourselves. It appeared to lack everything that makes a Porsche great, instead opting for the board-approved "safe" option. The Macan, on the other hand, is everything the Cayenne couldn't be.

You'll need to ask yourself a series of questions to determine whether it's the right car for you. For one thing, "Are you prepared and willing to invest a significant amount of money over time?" If not, you have your answer. Avoid vehicles such as the Porsche Macan.

It's not because the Macan is a bad car; in fact, it's quite the opposite. In our opinion, Porsche has finally created their best SUV to date. However, as with most expensive automobile brands, these vehicles have significant recurring costs (beyond what you pay at the dealership).

Now, because Porsche takes pride in the quality of their vehicles, it's unlikely that a Macan will fall apart the moment it leaves the factory. For the most part, it won't have any major mechanical issues or breakdowns for the first few years of its life. However, if something does go wrong, you're in for a big bill.

"Is the Porsche Macan a trustworthy sports SUV?" True, but only to a point. Those who do not have the funds to pay for repairs after that point should probably stick to a short-term lease because it will require an inspection sooner or later. Of course, if you have the money, that's not a problem.
