The BMW M8 Gran Coupe is everything a car enthusiast could want: stylish, powerful, fast, and luxurious. Nobody makes all-around performance vehicles quite like BMW.
Whatever model you choose, you can be certain that the styling will turn heads, the level of performance will impress your friends, and the level of luxury and comfort will have you forgetting you were ever seated inside a performance vehicle capable of supercar speeds.
The BMW M8 Gran Coupé excels in all of these areas, and it may be the best all-arounder in the sports Coupé category. What we like about the BMW M8 Gran Coupé is detailed below.
Features of Safety
The M8 is a sports coupé, but that doesn't mean safety has been sacrificed in the name of speed, and BMW has managed to keep the M8 as safe as possible with modern and high-tech safety systems.
The BMW has adaptive cruise control and stop-and-go technology, as well as blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking with forward collision warning. The only drawback to the vast array of safety systems is that some of them are only available as optional extras, which means they are slightly more expensive.
The M version Sport Changes
The M version of any BMW raises visual and performance expectations, and the top-of-the-line M8 Gran Coupé delivers on both counts. As is often the case with BMW, the M8 receives additional M sport badging on the interior and exterior.
It also has four large exhausts, unique alloy wheels, and a sports tuned chassis and dampers for improved track performance. Not to mention the increased power output over the M850i's 4.4-liter V8 twin turbo, which only produces 530 hp compared to the M8's 617 hp.
Interior Design of High Quality
The M8 Gran Coupé is a luxury grand tourer, as the name implies, and the one thing a grand tourer must get right is an exceptional level of luxury and high quality.
The interior of the M8 features extremely high quality white leather seats that can be heated and massaged for added comfort. Even taller passengers will have plenty of legroom in the back. Rear passengers even have their own controls, including the ability to change the rear climate settings and activate the rear blinds. The car is generally well-made, and what the BMW lacks in excitement and updated interior design over rivals, it more than makes up for with superior build quality.
Exterior Design
The BMW M8's styling is nothing short of spectacular. With its intriguing four-door layout in coupé form, it strikes the perfect balance between a coupe and a sedan.
The aggressive styling is accentuated even more by the M8 model, and it's all the better for it. Dashes of carbon fibre on the exterior and slightly more aggressive bumpers complete the look. The updated and more sporty sloped rear and thinner taillights look great as well.
The BMW has been outfitted with new technology
However, the BMW isn't all show and no substance, as it's been outfitted with some new technology and tweaks to help it compete with its German rivals. Fortunately, the M8 now includes Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a modern and sleek digital instrument cluster.
An upgraded Bowers & Wilkins audio system is available as an option, and the well-designed 10.3-inch infotainment screen is responsive and can also be controlled via a rotary dial on the centre console. If you have an Android phone, you can also use your smartphone to unlock the door.
The Engine
All of that acceleration and high-end top speed wouldn't be possible without what's under the hood of the M8, and BMW has fitted the Gran Coupé with a masterpiece of an engine.
The M8 is powered by a 4.4-liter V8 with twin turbos that produces 617 hp. Again, this is comparable to supercars like the Aston Martin DB11 and some of Chevrolet and Dodge's more powerful muscle cars.
Supercar Performance
The M8's performance is truly incredible because, while it is obvious that this is no ordinary BMW, the speeds the M8 is capable of hitting are still jaw-dropping.
The M8 Gran Coupé accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. This means it accelerates faster than a McLaren 720 S and a Lamborghini Huracán EVO, putting it on par with a slew of other supercars. The M8 has a top speed of 190 miles per hour.
Drivetrain Configuration and Modes of Operation
The M8 Gran Coupé's all-wheel drive system and inclusion of multiple driving modes is one of its most appealing features, adding a desirable level of versatility to the vehicle.
The all-wheel drive system provides good traction both on track and in everyday driving; however, the system can be changed to make it two-wheel drive, and disengaging the front wheels allows the car to drift easily. Depending on the scenario, the included driving modes range from comfort modes to all-out performance sports modes, providing a variety of driving experiences.
Storage and Convenience
The M8 has the potential to seat 5 as a coupé sedan mix, and the level of practicality on display even extends to storage areas and fuel efficiency
The rear cargo area is just over 311 litres in size, which is more than competitive in the sports coupe category, and there are a number of hidden storage bins in the cabin, both front and rear, as well as a few cup holders tucked away. The M8's fuel efficiency is interesting because it is a sports model, but with careful driving, the M8 is easily capable of achieving over 30 mpg, which is incredibly impressive for a car of its power.
