Farewell concerts aren't always the last of anything. Cream, The Who, Kiss, and even Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, all returned to the stage after what was billed as their "final tour." Cadillac, on the other hand, does not appear to be bluffing when it says that the CT4-V Blackwing and its larger, V-8-powered CT5-V Blackwing siblings will be the last gas-powered V cars. Even if plans change and more gas-powered Cadillac Vs appear after these, the CT4-V Blackwing, like any farewell tour, is something you don't want to miss.
What Is New in 2022?
The all-new 2022 CT4-V Blackwing sedan replaces the company's once-critically acclaimed Cadillac ATS-V. Fortunately, the CT4-V Blackwing is good enough to remind German automakers that America still produces badass performance sedans.
Cadillac CT4 V Blackwing Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The CT4-V Blackwing is powered by a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6 engine that generates 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. This power is routed to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission or a ten-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is not an option. The Blackwing sounds better than its ATS-V predecessor, has a lot of steering feedback, and has one of the best ride-handling balances in its class, according to our first impressions.
Every model has adaptive dampers, an electronic limited-slip differential, and a powerful braking system, making it racetrack ready. We saw the CT4-V Blackwing with the manual 'box hit 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, post 1.01 g on our skidpad, and stop from 70 mph in 153 feet on our own test track. While all three figures trail the 503-hp, automatic-only BMW M3 Competition we tested, the Caddy feels more alive and communicates with the driver better.
