Cadillac's midsize crossover SUV, the XT5, is already looking a little worn. While it only debuted five years ago, that's a lifetime in the world of small and medium-sized SUVs. Most of the XT5's competitors, including the Lincoln Aviator and Mercedes GLE, have newer designs. That will change with the model for next year, which is expected to be the first of a new generation. Meanwhile, the 2022 XT5 maintains its status with only minor changes.

2022 Cadillac XT5 Fuel

The XT5 could be a good choice if you want an American-built midsize SUV that is a step up in luxury from, say, a GMC or Buick model. It also has plenty of space for both passengers and cargo. However, when compared to its European and Japanese counterparts, the XT5 falls in the middle of the pack. Read our Expert Rating for more information on all of the XT5's flaws.

Cadillac XT5 Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

EPA fuel economy estimates for front-wheel-drive XT5s with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder are 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. Upgrading to the V-6 reduces the mpg to 19 city, 26 highway, and 21 combined. Adding the optional all-wheel drive lowers these estimates slightly on both models, a small price to pay for extra confidence in bad weather. An all-wheel-drive XT5 with the V-6 engine returned 23 mpg on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route, while a front-wheel-drive model with the turbocharged four-cylinder returned 29 mpg.
