Cadillac's first entry into the luxury electric vehicle market will be the Lyriq SUV, which features sharp styling and a modern interior. Cadillac claims that its new SUV will be available in both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations, and that it will have a driving range of more than 300 miles.
The Lyriq was designed from the ground up and will be powered by General Motors' new scalable battery architecture; the company claims that the dedicated EV-architecture provides a low centre of gravity and a spacious cabin. The Lyriq is expected to go on sale in early 2022 as a 2023 model.
What Is New in 2023?
Lyriq is not only a new nameplate for the American luxury brand, but it is also Cadillac's first all-electric vehicle. When it goes on sale, it will compete with heavyweights like the Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace, and Tesla Model X.
Cadillac has only revealed the Lyriq's base price so far—an appealing $59,995—so we're speculating on pricing for the Lyriq's higher trim levels. We anticipate learning more about the Lyriq lineup and its various standard and optional features as the crossover's release date approaches.
Cadillac Lyriq Engine
The Lyriq will be available with rear-wheel drive as standard, with an electric motor on the rear axle; all-wheel drive will be available as an option, with a second motor at the front to drive those wheels. So far, Cadillac has been tight-lipped about the Lyriq's all-wheel drive powertrain, so we don't know how much horsepower it will produce; the rear-wheel drive model is said to produce 340 horsepower.
Because of the immediate nature of an electric motor's power delivery, acceleration is certain to be quick, at least at lower speeds. During our testing, the I-Pace, for example, reached 60 mph in 4.3 seconds; we anticipate the Lyriq to perform similarly.
