The Cadillac CT5 is a luxury sports sedan that seats five people and is available with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. It is equipped with a 237-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as standard, and an optional twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine with 335 hp in the Premium Luxury trim and 360 hp in the V-Series model. Both engines are mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 are competitors.

Fans of the outgoing Cadillac CTS-V, take note: the CT5-V Blackwing, despite its new name, is the rightful successor to that performance powerhouse. The new car is powered by the same supercharged V-8 engine, but Cadillac is banking on its updated styling and new interior for high performance.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, BMW M3, and Mercedes-AMG C63 are all well-equipped rivals for the Blackwing. To compete with these world-class sports sedans, the CT5-V Blackwing provides more than just horsepower; it also provides an excellent ride and handling to complement its brutal acceleration. The CT5-V Blackwing more than lives up to the hype, roaring to the top of this segment of hot four-doors and claiming a 10Best title along the way.

Despite the fact that Cadillac calls it the CT5-V Blackwing, it isn't powered by the newly developed twin-turbo Blackwing V-8 from the now-defunct CT6-V. Instead, an updated version of the CTS-supercharged V's 6.2-liter V-8 with 668 horsepower pairs to either a six-speed manual or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission. Despite its sporting intentions, the CT5-V Blackwing is a sharp-handling sedan that can also be configured to ride quite comfortably.

Standard magnetorheological dampers detect the road surface as well as your driving intent and adjust accordingly. The CT5-V Blackwing with the six-speed manual hit 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds in our testing; we estimate it will be capable of hitting 60 mph in as little as 3.4 seconds when equipped with the optional automatic transmission.
