The Ford Bronco Sport is an amazing SUV. It has nimble handling and plenty of off-road capability, and it comes with a choice of two capable turbocharged engines. The front seats are spacious and comfortable, and the technology features are simple to use. Other compact SUVs, on the other hand, have nicer cabins and more rear-seat legroom.

Small crossover buyers should consider this Ford, especially if they want to go off-road but don't need the capabilities of a billy goat like the Jeep Wrangler. With an above-average starting price, the Bronco Sport isn't exactly a value play, but it's a good little SUV that can meet the needs of a wide range of buyers.

2022 Ford Bronco Sport Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Bronco Sport is built on the same platform as the compact Escape crossover, and all models are all-wheel drive. The base engine is a 181-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder, but a 245-hp turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder is also available. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, but the more powerful engine includes steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and upgraded cooling components. The Bronco Sport is also capable of towing between 2000 and 2200 pounds.

The top-tier Badlands trim level includes a variety of exclusive features, such as a twin-clutch rear-drive unit with a differential lock. It also has all-terrain tyres on 17-inch wheels, a 1.0-inch suspension lift for increased ground clearance, and beefier shock absorbers. We drove a Bronco Sport Badlands and were impressed by its hefty steering and firm ride, which made it feel truck-like but not particularly smooth and steady on the highway. Its off-road capabilities also exceeded expectations, but keep in mind that it still has limitations before attempting the Rubicon Trail.
