The Ford Explorer lineup now introduces a unique ST-Line trim, which combines the styling of the high-performance ST trim with a more efficient turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain. The ST-Line version has 20-inch wheels and black exterior accents and badging. The interior is also performance-oriented, with faux-suede upholstery with red stitching, a sport steering wheel, and door-jamb protector plates with the ST-Line logo.
Speaking of ST, the Explorer's most sporty model is now available with rear-wheel drive. High-end King Ranch and Platinum models get 400 horsepower and can be equipped for free with either a second-row bench seat or a pair of captain's chairs. The Timberline model, which debuted last year, is now available with a second-row bench.

While the interior design is uninspired, the cabin of the Explorer is functional and comfortable—at least for those in the first two rows. The standard third row is relatively easy to access thanks to a mechanism that moves the second-row seat out of the way with the touch of a button.
However, once back there, older children and adults will discover that the seat is too close to the floor to be comfortable. Rivals like the Chevrolet Traverse and the Volkswagen Atlas offer more space in the third row. We were able to fit four carry-on suitcases behind the Ford's third row, and a total of 31 bags when both back rows were folded flat.
